Here's a little more detail about the types of weapons that can be obtained:
Swords: Swords are the most accurate type of physical weapon, as well as the lightest and easiest to use, but they are also the weakest. Reliable and constant, swords are for those who value speed and technique over raw power, the most frequent users of which include nobles, tacticians, thieves and wandering myrmidons.
Lances: Lances are middle-of-the-road in terms of statistics. While they have a lot of reach to them, they are also moderately strong and accurate, and are best for those who value good balance. No knight is complete without his or her trusty lance, and most people riding around on a horse or pegasus will also probably use a lance.
Axes: Axes are for the STRONG! While their accuracy is a little hit-and-miss compared to their bladed brethren, axes are fantastically powerful even if they do limit their owner's speed just a little. Axes are used by physical fighters, barbarians, dragon riders and even the occasional pirate.
Bows: Bows are the odd one out of the physical weapons in that they always strike from afar. From crossbows to longbows to bow bows, bows are all about accuracy and precision, but possess middling power. They're great for ranged combat and sneak attacks, and are the staple of archers everywhere.
Staves: Healing magic! Staves are mysterious rods imbued with healing power, and are usable by every single race. Staves don't just repair wounds- different staves can heal ailments such as poison and burns, and also do some crazy things like increasing stats or allowing the user to teleport. Staves are used mainly by clerics, medics, and other healy types, but you will often find mages who double as healers.
Wind Tomes: Wind is the Anima-magical equivalent of the sword, sending gale forces at opponents to try and slice them up. While wind doesn't cause any status effects or anything and is moderately weak as far as magic goes, it does huge amounts of damage against certain types of enemies, including pretty much anything sporting a pair of wings. Due to controlling the... well, you know, the air... Wind magic is versatile in its range.
Fire Tomes: The magical equivalent of a lance, Fire is your standard, bread-and-butter Anima magic that is used by most Seer Mages. Naturally, you can use it to create explosions and set your foes aflame! Not only that, but fire has the added bonus of often inflicting burns on the opponent, which can often cause magical damage to accumulate rather fast. It is also fairly effective against armored enemies, due to the whole 'metal convection' thing.
Thunder Tomes: The magical equivalent of an axe, Thunder, while a little inaccurate, is devastating to most of the things that it hits. Dropping literal lightning bolts right out of the sky, Thunder Tomes are easily the most powerful of the lot, and while it isn't particularly super effective against much else, it does have the tic of often paralyzing the opponents who come into contact with the lightning.
Dark Tomes: The only tomes able to be used by pure-blooded humans, Dark Tomes are a bit odd, and are not considered to be Anima magic at all. Specializing in hexes, status conditions, and other nasty stuff. From Poison to Blindness to striking from a mile away to even instant freaking death, Dark Tomes are one scary piece of Hel.
Light Tomes: The newest type of magic to be discovered, Light tomes are even weaker than Wind magic... but they can hit multiple foes at once, something no other weapon is properly capable of. Despite this, they are most easily used by Healers, and have the added bonus of being especially effective against dragons of all kinds. It also has a chance of inflicting Blindness, which at this point is just a bonus as you continue to smite your foes.
Talismans: Enchanted objects used by Youko to transform into foxes, Talismans grant them a number of benefits. Depending on the type of Talisman used, different powers and abilities can be granted: from fiery will-o-wisps to healing light to the darkest of spells, a Youko's magic talisman is his or her greatest weapon in battle.
Dragonstones: The equivalent of a Talisman, a Dragonstone is a mysterious gem that lets a Manakete assume dragon form. Depending on the stone, a Manakete can gain a number of powers, most often far more physically based than that of Youko. While they can breathe fire, Manaketes can also attack with their wings, fangs and claws.
